How will we reach the world around us?
The very best way to reach people for Christ is through relationships. When Jesus sent us into the world to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20) He didn’t give us any specifics on how to accomplish the task. By looking at other scripture passages such as Luke 5:29, Acts 2:42-47 and looking at Jesus’ own example, we can see that talking to people and starting friendships with them is the best way to include them in the journey of faith.
Quarry Ridge uses a 6-step strategy for fulfilling the Great Commission. . .
The Ridge's 6-step strategy:
1. Build a relationship of trust and integrity
2. Invite them to a safe event for seekers and skeptics
3. Share your verbal witness to lead them to faith in Christ
4. Involve them in the New Community - life at the Ridge
5. Become a part of a Discipleship Team
6. Serve in the Body of Christ
This is also a description of how we’re to do our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ who in turn make more disciples of Jesus Christ.
The leaders of Quarry Ridge have as their duty Ephesians 4:11-13: “. . .to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith. . .” We prepare and equip the people of the church to fulfill the Great Commission by offering classes, materials, coaching, and teaching on each of the six steps.
The people of Quarry Ridge have as their duty Jesus’ Great Commission itself found in Matthew 28:18-20: “. . . go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” The 6-Step Strategy is your personal playbook, field guide or map for personally working to accomplish the Great Commission.
The leaders of Quarry Ridge have created specific workshops, activities and events to help us all embrace and utilize the 6-Step Strategy.
1. Build a relationship of trust and integrity
This has to do with loving - loving God enough that we will follow His commands to love our neighbor as ourselves. The Neighbor-2-Neighbor & Friend-2-Friend course was designed to help us learn to start small one-on-one or two-to-two “coffee-clutch, playing-the-links, paintballing, boardgame, relationships” with neighbors and friends in order to carefully and lovingly introduce Jesus and ask the tough questions about life and eternity in safe, trusted settings.
2. Invite them to a safe event for seekers and skeptics
This has to do with belonging. Dinners at home with other friends from the Ridge, all-church activities, the Sunday morning coffee fellowship and FamJam family worship are all safe, side-door entry points for our guests. They don’t have to be immersed in the Worship Celebration or the Discipleship Team right off the bat – invite them to safe church activities perfectly suited for them.
3. Share your verbal witness to lead them to faith in Christ
This has to do with telling people about Christ in your life. People might argue religion – but they can’t argue with a changed life. Your life is a witness to Christ’s work in the world. The Becoming a Contagious Christian course is designed to help you learn to tell your story – then ask the tough questions of your guests to help lead them to faith in Christ.
4. New Community: Worship Celebration
This is all about worshipping. Worship is what the church united does best – and it’s the purpose of our Sunday mornings together. When someone decides to trust Christ with their life and eternity, the most logical thing in which to engage is worship. The Ridge’s Worship Celebration is designed to challenge the Christ-follower and engage and draw in the seeker/skeptic.
5. Become a part of a Discipleship Team
This is all about growing in our Christ-likeness. Becoming a Christ-follower is more than just asking Christ to forgive you. It’s a lifestyle change and choice – it’s living for Jesus the way He showed us to live. Our D-Teams are the very best place to be challenged, taught, coached, and held accountable for our words and actions.
6. Serve in the Body of Christ
This is all about serving. Serving involves work, helping others, stewardship and more. We believe in serving out of your giftedness – using the spiritual gifts God has given you to serve well. Our Discovering Your Ministry S.H.A.P.E. course is the best way to discover your giftedness, and then jump in with both feet to find your best fit in ministry.
