Praise
There are many forms of praise shown in Scripture. Nearly every form of praise involves action – and many involve making noise! In our worship of God, we are able to show Him our love, adoration and respect by utilizing one or more of these more recognizable forms of praise.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150)
Raising hands
Psalm 134:2 Lift up your hands in the Sanctuary and praise the Lord.
(Several Hebrew words are used in various scriptures. Nasa means to raise or lift up, either your Yad which means hand, or your Kap which means palm. Maset means to lift up your hands and signal. As you can see, there are many ways raising hands can be done. It’s up to you to work out the way that feels best.)
Giving thanks
Psalm 107:4 “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise, give thanks to Him and praise His name.
Clapping
Psalm 47:1 “Clap your hands all you nations.”
Singing
Psalm 104:33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Kneeling
Psalm 95:6 “Come, let us bow down [Kara: “touch the head to the ground”] in worship. Let us kneel [Barak: “kneel on one or two knees”] before the Lord our Maker.”
Cheering; Being Noisy; Exuberant
Psalm 66:16-17 “Come and listen all you who fear God; let me tell you what He has done for me. I cried out to Him with my mouth; His praise was on my tongue.”
Laughter
Psalm 126:2 “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.”
Dancing
Psalm 149:3 “Let them praise His name with dancing. . .”
Psalm 147 shows that multiple forms of praise can be used:
1 Praise [Halal: “be noisy to”] the Lord. How good it is to sing praises [Zamar: “make music on an instrument”] to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise [Tehillah: “sing with abandon to”] Him! 7Sing [Siyr: sing] to the Lord with thanksgiving [Todah: give thanks]; make music [Zamar: “make music on an instrument”] to our God on the harp.
